ice-cream
i love ice-cream! mostly the milky flavours rather than the fruity ones...maybe because I have milk intolerance? somehow I balance it out …but even before I developed milk intolerance I was fond of ice-cream. not of the ones I get here. not the ones from patisseries. packed ones, especially the ones with a bit of alcohol; rum for instance!
the ones from my childhood. ..something ‘forest’ it was called...
whenever i visited dad (once a year), he would always buy me ice-cream. every summer it had become a tradition to get ice-cream during our big saturday shopping. how I loved it! i must confess i absolutely love sweets. but not candies. just ice-cream, chocolate, cakes, especially wet ones with cream on top or on the side and most of all the poppy seed cake which is my favourite one! yummy! therefore, i am very brave in trying other cultures’ desserts. however, the ones which had no luck with me were the pakistani sweets in the shops in brick lane. even though i wanted to try those colourful things, something prevented me from trying it... i guess , will give it a try the next time.
that reminds me of my feeling about chinatown. whenever i pass those tiny nice-smelling (sweet-savoury) streets i cannot think about eating meat after seeing them hanging upside down in those shop/restaurant windows...yuk! i know, that is part of the culture, just like we had these butchers in the past with meats hanging in the shop window…that’s also why i grew a kind of antipathy with those new emerging steakhouses. i know the rationale behind it but still...poor animals... ( i think i don’t want to be reminded that i am about to commit some sort of crime there!) anyway...according to my aesthetic taste, that meat has got nothing to do there on display…sorry Damien, that is why even though i highly appreciate your artworks and i do have a great passion for art and design, i feel kinda strange looking at those animals in that greenish water!! (i know, in 'formaldehyde') forgive me. but i love your dots and the butterflies! :) (one surely has to point to the facts and to the ‘not so nice’ parts in life). i am definitely someone who would like to see only the nice bits!
just like ice-cream. what can be bad about it ? (apart from the calories when eaten too much??)
imagine: ice-cream plain, ice-cream on a mouth watering warm brownie, melting vanilla ice-cream on top of your coffee…vanilla is fab! did you know that it can make you feel happy? believe me. i once read in an article that it increases serotonin in the brain, which makes you happier! i definitely have always believed that it affected my brains’ chemistry. i was almost losing myself each time i ate that certain vanilla pudding with cream on top. while in london, i even bought pods of vanilla and smelt it whenever i felt unhappy. (no, not those particular pods!!) that sweet smell even turned my day to a sweet one. that is why real vanilla ice is sooo tasty. yshould really see the tiny black dots of vanilla beans in it and the smell should be natural. that is real vanilla. when i particularly want that sort of taste, there is only one place, a cafe that does real homemade vanilla ice-cream. i even wanted to buy some, costs a lot though.. they sell it in 3 kilo boxes and that equals to the pair of Vivienne Westwood shoes i wanted to buy…is it not worth it? of course it is. that's vanilla. vanillin itself is expensive. however, i prefer eating it in small portions, enjoying it and then craving for the next one the next time rather than having the whole 3kg box in my freezer, which i am sure i would be visiting most of the time until the box is completely finished! (actually being ultra-happy for one week sounds nice, huh?!) how long do you give me? a week? maybe less? but the Viviene Westwood ( i adore her so much!) shoes would be mine, all mine!!! the first day i could even wear them to bed if i wanted!! look at them and adore them... sounds nice...better than: ‘look at it, don’t let it melt and eat it!’
summer has approached…lovely! the sun is shining, , am full of energy again after that winter spent in hibernation….summer, sunshine, sea, holiday….
